Posey Starkey Pastor Emeritus

Biography and Education

Posey is a native of Roanoke, Va. He received his Bachelor of Music from Samford University and his Master of Sacred Music, Major Voice, and Minor Keyboard at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as Minister of Music and Youth at First Baptis Church of Yazoo City, MS, as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Montgomery, AL, and as Minister of Music at Second Baptist Church of Houston, TX. While at Second Baptist, he also taught in the church’s private school, teaching middle school for 12 years as Choral Director, Handbell Director, and Music Appreciation teacher. Leaving Texas, he came to Marietta, GA to become the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Marietta. From 1998 to 2008, he served in various positions at Buckhead Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. And in 2008 he retired from the post of senior pastor. After retiring, he was elected as Pastor Emeritus by the church. After enjoying a brief respite in the world of retirement, Posey accepted a call from the church to become its new Minister to Senior Adults and Food Services Director as of October 2009.


Posey is a widower and has three children and five grandchildren. In his leisure time he enjoys traveling and cooking.
